MHAT stands for Mental Health Awareness Training. This project trains community members and first responders on how to appropriately respond to individuals who are experiencing a serious emotional disturbance or mental health crisis in a safe manner that will de-escalate the situation. Mental Health First Aiders will learn how to identify the signs and symptoms of emotional disturbance and mental illness, strategies for deescalating a crisis situation, and resources for linking the individual with appropriate prevention and treatment services. This will be accomplished through initial training, booster trainings, and mental health consultation with a licensed clinician.
