The COPSD (co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders) Case Management Program provides additional services for women and men with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. The program ensures that participants receive integrated treatment for both mental health and substance use disorders, seeing both disorders as primary. Staff members ensure that case management services are delivered within the existing mental health and substance use disorder treatment services and ensure that participants remain engaged in both treatments.

Many individuals receiving substance abuse treatment do not know they have an underlying mental health condition. Therefore, during the treatment process participants are assessed for the presence of mental health disorders and linked to mental health assessment and treatment if symptoms are identified. For clients already diagnosed with a mental health disorder, the program ensures that they are re-linked to mental health treatment. The program also ensures that participants are linked to other services that can meet the overall needs such as health care, employment, social services etc. Case Managers provide transportation and accompaniment to and from their appointments.

Case Managers are trained on Motivational Interviewing to ensure the ongoing engagement and retention of participants in treatment. They collaborate closely with substance abuse and mental health clinicians to ensure that service are tailored to the specific needs of clients and that participants make progress towards achieving their treatment goals.
